And he in actual fact bought me breakfast because I discovered it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the deal with! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to debate this, I really feel strongly about it and love studying more on this topic. If doable, as you turn out to be expertise, would you mind updating your weblog with more particulars? It's highly helpful for me. Comment on You’ve Had a Near Death Experience: Now What? by Marny Whitaker http://spiritualscientific.com/DrMorseBlog/2010/07/22/youve-had-a-near-death-experience-now-what/comment-page-1/#comment-3039 Marny Whitaker Tue, 05 Jul 2011 21:42:26 +0000 http://spiritualscientific.com/DrMorseBlog/?p=46#comment-3039 I am just now reading the book "Closer To The Light". I found it by accident at the library. Interesting. The book is so full of information that I needed to hear. Years ago (in my mid thirties) I experienced "The Light". It wasn't a near death experience - at least of my body. I might have been near death in my soul. But The Light - absolutely amazing! I was filled with peace and love. I have never forgotten that day or the year following when each night I looked forward to going to bed to have a conversation with God. It has been my mainstay all these years. Actually, Tom Harpur , who was writing a column in the Toronto Star, came and interviewed me and wrote it up in the paper. Unfortunately, having moved so many times, I have lost the article. I just wanted to say that it doesn't always take a near death experience to experience The Light. My life hasn't been easy, but the knowledge of this experience has been a true blessing, which I have drawn on many times. It is all about love. And I knew that when I was about sixteen. I am still learning. Over the years, when I thought it might be appropriate, I have shared this experience with close friends. But yes, it is something that most do not understand. Therefore I could not let this opportunity pass without telling people that do know. Thank you. I am just now reading the book “Closer To The Light”. I found it by accident at the library. You wrote the following and I would appreciate any references to details of this process of new neuron formation and transport in the brain. Thank you. Functional neurogenesis: This is the fairly recent discovery that thoughts change brain structure. Even more fascinating is that thoughts alone can trigger the healing of brains severely damaged by strokes or other causes. This healing begins precisely in the same brain structures responsible for our sense of self, personality, memories, and relationship to god. The newly formed brain cells then migrate throughout the brain to where they are needed. I was a student when Fred Gage, a pioneer of neurogenesis, was at Johns Hopkins. I vividly remember him saying how disturbing it was that the brain could alter itself and change. He mused about how personality and memory could be stable in an unstable brain (if they are only brain based). I was already struggling with the same questions, as I was taking care of patients who had had one half of their brain removed for seizure control. Post-operatively they had the same personalities, memories, and even walked and talked with very little apparent neurological deficits. Dear Drs.

Existing in the brain does not make something less than real. Dreams are in the brain. So are our emotions, our hunches, and our imaginations. So, it seems, is God. All of these offer very real experiences that cannot be shared with others, and whose existence can only be 'proven' through brain imaging. No other evidence can prove that any specific dream ever happened. "GET REAL Persinger, Andrew Newburg, Michael Shermer, Mathew Alpert and the rest of you sloppy scientific thinkers, experiencing god is just as real as any other human experience." Experiences that happen only in the brain are very real. Saying that God is a real experience doesn't address the question of whether it's happening only in the brain. I think, Dr. Morse, that you may need to use the phrase "objective existence" more often. If the researchers you disagree with on this page are right, then God has no objective existence, though the subjective experience is very real. "Real" enough to alter the personalities, emotional habits, and ways of thinking for those who have it - by making many (very many) very small changes in the brain. According to Persinger, we all live in the earth's magnetic field, which allows communication between brains, though usually during dreams. However, this supposition does not mean that information exists outside the brain rather than in it. The bulk of the information that influences you would appear to be in your brain, but some of it is outside it. The magnetic component of consciousness could also exist outside the brain - if the earth's magnetic field serves as it's medium. So also could those of memory. “For some bizarre reason, if its about god, then it’s just in the brain and not real.”

Comment on My Personal “Proof” of God by David Beazley http://spiritualscientific.com/DrMorseBlog/2010/05/21/my-personal-proof-of-god/comment-page-1/#comment-2548 David Beazley Sat, 21 May 2011 11:59:57 +0000 http://phillycoolrob.com/wordpress_281/?p=1#comment-2548 Dr. Morse , I am glad you noticed that God does exist even in the very trivial things of our life. My brother had passed away last year and i was very down and depressed , as i walked to the mailbox that morning before going to the last hospital visit when he died, I was overwhelmed by the strong scent of fresh roses it surrounded me ,now i live in a rural area and can see about 1000 yards all around me and there were no rose bushes or any blossom anywhere, to me this was God comforting me because the rose scent was familiar to when I was 16 at my fathers funeral service there were nothing but red roses and the scent was very strong ,the message told be that my brother was ok,he is with my father. that was all i needed for reassurance and like yours it was one of my own personal experiences of how God works and communicates to us.
